Most agencies won’t tell you a price until you’ve sat through a sales call. This guide gives you the real ranges for South African business websites, online stores and custom systems, what drives the price up or down, the monthly costs nobody mentions, and exactly what we charge.
Ranges below reflect what small and mid-sized South African businesses are quoted by freelancers, small studios and agencies. They are once-off build costs, excluding VAT and monthly running costs.
| Type of website | Typical SA market range | What you get | Eminent WebX price |
|---|---|---|---|
| DIY builder (Wix, Squarespace, Shopify starter) | R0 – R6,000 + monthly fees | A template you build yourself. Fast to start, hard to rank, and your time is the real cost. | — |
| Small business website (5 pages) | R5,000 – R15,000 | Professional design, mobile-first, contact form, basic SEO. The right choice for most new and local businesses. | R5,530 Launch package |
| Content-managed business site (10+ pages, blog) | R12,000 – R40,000 | Custom design, CMS you can edit, on-page SEO, speed work, analytics, Google Business setup. | R10,430 Growth package |
| Online store (WooCommerce) | R15,000 – R60,000+ | Products, cart, checkout, SA payment gateway, shipping rules, inventory. | R18,830 Commerce package (up to 50 products) |

Our prices are launch-special pricing (30% off) and exclude 15% VAT. Market ranges are our reading of what South African businesses are typically quoted in 2026; individual quotes vary widely.
Five pages that share one layout cost far less than fifteen pages that each need their own design. Ask whether “10 pages” means ten designed pages or one template used ten times.
A purchased theme with your logo dropped in is cheap and looks like it. Custom design — layouts built around what your visitor needs to see to enquire — costs more and converts better. Everything we build is custom design on a fast, standard WordPress foundation.
Someone has to write the words and source the images. If you supply finished content the price drops; if the studio has to interview you and write every page, expect R1,500–R5,000 or more added. We give you a content brief at the start so you know exactly what to send.
Products, variations, shipping rules, tax, a payment gateway and the checkout flow add real work. South African gateways such as PayFast, Yoco and Stripe are straightforward; unusual stock or courier integrations are where quotes climb.
Connecting the website to your CRM, accounting package, booking system or WhatsApp is where a “website” becomes a “system”. This is our specialty — see business automation systems — and it is quoted separately, fixed-price, once scoped.
A site that ranks needs proper structure, titles, schema markup, fast load times and Google Business Profile setup. Some agencies bolt this on at R3,000–R10,000; our Growth package includes on-page SEO, speed tuning and Google Business setup as standard.
Agency overheads — account managers, offices, sales teams — are in the quote whether you use them or not. A founder-run studio has lower overheads, and you deal directly with the person building the site.
A .co.za domain is inexpensive. Renew it every year in your own name — never let an agency own your domain.
Cheap shared hosting is slow and unsupported. Managed WordPress hosting with SSL, backups and monitoring is what a business site should run on.
Updates, security, backups, monitoring and someone to make changes. Our care plans bundle hosting and maintenance from R450/month.
Add paid advertising or SEO retainers only when the site itself is ready to convert the traffic. Sending ads to a slow site with no clear enquiry path is the most common way South African small businesses waste marketing money.
We publish our prices because we’d want to see them too. The package price is the price; the only things that change it are extras you choose (more pages, extra revision rounds, integrations) and those are quoted before we start, never after.
If your project doesn’t fit a package, we scope it in a short call and quote a fixed price. No hourly surprises.
In 2026 a professionally built 5-page business website typically costs between R5,000 and R15,000 once-off from a small studio, and R15,000 to R40,000 from a larger agency. DIY builders are cheaper up front but cost you in time, and rarely rank or convert well. Our Launch package is R5,530 ex VAT.
A WooCommerce store with a South African payment gateway usually costs R15,000 to R60,000 depending on product count, integrations and design. Our Commerce package is R18,830 ex VAT for up to 50 products with PayFast, Yoco or Stripe, cart, checkout and shipping rules.
Budget for a domain (roughly R100–R250 a year for a .co.za), hosting (R100–R500 a month on shared hosting, more for managed), and maintenance. Our care plans bundle managed hosting, SSL, backups, monitoring and updates from R450 a month ex VAT.
Because they price differently: hourly rates, page counts, custom design versus templates, and how much strategy, copywriting and SEO are included. Always compare what is included, how many revision rounds you get, who owns the site afterwards, and what the monthly costs are.
At Eminent WebX website packages are paid once-off at the published price. Custom systems and web apps are scoped first and quoted fixed-price. Care plans are billed monthly with no setup fee and 30 days’ notice to cancel.
Not necessarily — a small business that needs a credible online presence quickly is well served by a fixed-price 5-page site. What to avoid is a cheap site with no mobile design, no SEO structure, no backups and nobody to call when it breaks. That is where the real cost hides.
Use the two-minute project builder and you’ll see the estimate before you submit anything, or WhatsApp us the basics and we’ll reply with a scoped price.
